Met Office issues weather warnings for thunderstorms and rain across Nottinghamshire

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Nottinghamshire and most of the UK.

A warning has been put in place from 12pm Wednesday, June 17, and the bad weather is expected to last for 12 hours.

Although some places will remain dry, slow moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to disruption due to flooding, the Met Office warned.

A second yellow weather warning for rain on Thursday across Nottinghamshire has also been issued.

That warning is in place from 3am to 12pm on June 18.

In Nottingham there is a 50 to 60 percent chance of thunderstorms between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday, according to forecasters.

Met Office on what to expect

The Met Office has said on its website to expect: "Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"Some communities might become cut off if roads flood.

"Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
