Met Office issues weather warning for South West

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for the South West.

Heavy rain is due to sweep into the region this week as the sunny weather comes to an end.

A yellow weather warning for rain and wind will be in place on Friday (October 2).

The forecast said: "A spell of wet and windy weather is expected, with potential for flooding and transport disruption."

The weather warning comes as we see a return to wetter weather, with heavy rain expected for Bristol from Friday to Saturday.

Gloucestershire will also see heavy rain and wind throughout the weekend, with temperatures dropping to 9C.

Somerset may see the worst of it, with a warning for heavy rain and wind in place throughout Friday.

The forecast for the weekend in the South West states: "Increasingly windy with persistent rain developing through Friday.

"Some outbreaks of rain on Saturday but also a few sunny intervals before returning to more prolonged rain on Sunday. Often windy."

When weather warning is in place

The weather warning is in place on Friday (October 2) from 3am until 8pm.

What to expect

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses in urbanised areas is likely
  • Spray and flooding on roads will make for dangerous driving conditions resulting in longer journey times.
  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
