Met Office issues weather warning for snow on Boxing Day as Scotland set for whiteout

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for Scotland on Boxing Day.

While some places may not be graced with a white Christmas, snow showers are expected to fall on December 26.

Earlier this week snow was forecast for higher grounds in Scotland and the Highlands, however snow flurries are now predicted to fall around the central belt.

However, if Edinburgh locals were hoping to see some of the white stuff, they are likely to be disappointed as the yellow weather warning is currently dodging the capital.

Those who are spending Christmas in the Borders, in Dumfries and Lockerbie and towards Kelso can expect to enjoy some snow. As will those in East Ayrshire, the Larkhall area of South Lanarkshire, Stirlingshire and Perth.

A statement from the Met Office read: "Snow and strong winds will probably affect some higher elevations, leading to possible disruption, mainly to travel.

"Some roads and railways likely to be affected by snow or ice, leading to longer journey times by car, as well as by bus and possibly train services

"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible."

The Met Office have only issued the weather warning for Boxing Day.

Edinburgh is expected to remain chilly with temperatures only rising to 5 degrees.

Light rain is expected to fall over the city by 3pm and continue throughout the night.
