Met Office issues weather warning for Northern Ireland

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for parts of Northern Ireland on Sunday.

A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place from midnight until 3pm on January 24.

Icy stretches and an area of sleet and snow bringing some travel disruption, the Met Office has warned.

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle path.

In some areas, temperatures will fall to below -7C making way for snow and ice.

The Met Office added: "A lot of dry and sunny weather on Sunday but wintry showers pushing in from the northwest during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 3C.

"Wintry showers, mainly during the morning, and sunny spells on Monday. Dry to start on Tuesday but rain arriving later. Further rain with some drier interludes on Wednesday."

This weather warning is one of five set across the UK by the Met Office.

Areas being placed under warnings are Northern Ireland, south-west England and South Wales, the Midlands, and south-east England.
