Met Office issues weather warning for Liverpool as icy blast hits city

The Met Office have issued a weather warning for ice for Merseyside, as temperatures plummet overnight.

The weather organisation have issued a yellow weather warning that lasts from 9pm on Tuesday to 10am on Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to reach lows of zero degrees tonight across our area, with fog also likely in the early morning.

The warning reads: " Icy patches are expected to develop overnight.

"There could be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."

The rest of Wednesday will see temperatures increase, with some rain and drizzle expected in the early evening.

The outlook for the North West for the next few days is: "On Thursday, early rain will be pushed away by strong winds.

"Thereafter, a theme of sunshine and showers will prevail for the rest of the day.

"On Thursday night, a spell of rain will move up from the south.

"On Friday, further rain and hill snow will quickly move up from the south, this clearing north late in the evening.

"Mostly dry and partly cloudy on Saturday."

And hopes for a White Christmas look increasingly unlikely, with the long range forecast currently shows a cloudy day with a light breeze and mild temperatures of ten degrees.
