Met Office issues weather warning for heavy rainfall and flooding

The Met Office have issued a weather warning for heavy rainfall and flooding across Glasgow.

An area of heavy rain is expected to become "slow-moving" across much of Scotland, particularly affecting western and central hills – with the yellow alert in place between noon and 3pm.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) say: "There is a risk of localised flooding from rivers and surface water during this time. This may result in flooding of low-lying land and roads, travel disruption, and flooding affecting individual properties."

It comes after several reports of flooding on Maryhill Road, near the West of Scotland Science Park, with a Mini said to be stuck in the middle of the road yesterday.

The Met Office warn:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer

Once the weather warning has been lifted, we're told to expect bright, sunny spells later this evening. But we're not exactly in the clear: There is still a possibility of thundery showers through the night and tomorrow before they ease away in the afternoon.
