Cars stuck in several feet of water after overnight flooding - and there's more heavy rain to come

There has been flooding after more heavy overnight rain continued the theme of a wet weekend for Greater Manchester .

Forecasters at the Met Office yesterday issued a yellow weather alert, warning of a spell of heavy rain in the region.

The warning is in place until midnight tonight.

Crossley Road on the border of Heaton Chapel and Burnage - a spot notorious for flooding - has done so again this morning with images showing vehicles stuck in several feet of water.

Conditions will stay the same on Sunday, with forecasters saying the continuing rain could cause travel disruption and delays on public transport.

On Monday, conditions will settle as the Met Office predicts it will be cloudy changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime.

This follows the hottest day of the year so far in Greater Manchester on Thursday.

Temperatures are thought to have reached record-breaking levels, hitting 35.3C just before 4pm.

Manchester bathed in glorious sunshine for the majority of last week and the scorching conditions sparked thunderstorms.

Thunder, lightning and heavy rain hit the region on Wednesday morning which some people said was the loudest and brightest storm they'd ever witnessed .
