Met Office issues weather warning for England and Wales

The Met Office has warned that heavy showers and winds reaching up to 70mph are set to hit England and Wales later this week.

The two nations are covered by a yellow weather warning for wind from 9pm on Wednesday until 3pm on Thursday.

The warning reads: “Strong winds accompanied by heavy and blustery showers may bring some disruption to England and Wales.”

Gusts of 50-55 mph are expected, which could rise to 60-70mph on coasts and hills.

The Met Office said there would probably be “delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges” as well as “delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.”

It added that “some short-term loss of power and other services” is possible, while some bus and train services could be affected, with some journeys taking longer.

In a tweet it explained: "The jet stream will push across the UK turning things unsettled.

"A series of low pressure systems will bring wet and windy weather from midweek."
