Met Office issues weather warning for 6 hours of torrential rainfall and floods

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for 6 hours of torrential rainfall and floods.

Parts of Wales and Scotland are expected to be hit by severe weather which could cause disruption to some travel services.

Dumfries, Galloway, Lothian & Borders and parts of wales have been issued with yellow weather warnings, with the Met Office saying bus and train services would probably be affected with journeys taking longer.

They added spray and flooding on roads could hamper car journeys, adding: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

On top of this, strong winds could reach 60mph on Wednesday, according to maps from WXCharts, with again the North West getting the worst of the gusts.

Jim NR Dale, of British Weather Services, told the Express : “Winds highest in far north & northwest, gusting +60 mph but mainly across areas used to such winds.

“All caused by nearby low pressure system & associated waving frontal system - driven by the jet stream. Not that unusual at this time of year.”

Paul Michaelwaite, Netweather forecaster, says there will be a north-south divide in the weather.

He said: “The north and west will see more of the wetter, windier weather, whereas those further southeast will see more in the way of dry conditions.

"The reason for the split is that, for the time being, low pressures are going to track nearer to the north of the country, allowing those further south and east to enjoy a bit more shelter and closer proximity to high pressure over the continent.

“A very similar setup is likely to persist right through the upcoming week, but with low pressure slowly furthering its influence in the south.

“Then by next weekend and the beginning of November, it does look likely that those further south will be getting in on the wet, windy action more often.”

After a fairly mild October the mercury is also expected to drop notably next week where parts of northern Scotland could have temperatures as low as -4C by November 3, according to WX Charts.
