Met Office issues weather warning - and predicts flooding in Greater Manchester on Saturday

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Saturday, with fears of another weekend washout.

Greater Manchester was lashed by torrential rain last Friday and into Saturday, with official flood warnings issued and submerged roads closed by councils and police.

The notorious A555 Airport Relief Road was flooded yet again, with cars spotted attempting to get through several inches of water following hours of heavy downpours.

Now forecasters have predicted yet more wet weather.

A 'yellow' coded warning for rain has been issued for Greater Manchester on Saturday.

It will come into force at 6am and remain in place until 10pm - with a chance of flooding and possible damage to buildings, according to the Met Office.

Areas to the south east of Manchester are expected to be hit worst, with the warning also extending into Cheshire.

"There is a chance of further heavy rain on Saturday leading to some flooding and travel disruption," said the Met Office.

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

"There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."
