Met Office issues weather forecast after hopes raised of '35C heatwave'

The Met Office predicts temperatures will be 'near or a little above average' in Nottinghamshire next month, despite hopes of a heatwave.

It was hoped a late spell of hot weather would be coming our way after heat maps from Netweather showed shades of deep red covering European countries, as reported in the Daily Express.

It would have come as welcome news to those across Nottingham and the county after a largely wet and dreary August.

In its long range forecast for between September 2 and 11, the Met Office said: "Most areas will see a continuation of dry weather with variable cloud and some spells of sunshine. Over the weekend outbreaks of rain may start to spread to some southern and western areas, with mostly dry weather continuing elsewhere.

"Temperatures are likely to be close to average for most, but rather cool in eastern regions. Into the following week it is likely that an unsettled spell of weather will develop, bringing showers or longer spells of rain across many parts of the UK."

Its prediction for the latter end of the month is similar, however notes a "trend toward drier weather".

"Confidence is low during this period," they stated. "An unsettled spell is most likely for the middle of September, the focus for this toward the west or northwest of the UK, with the south and southeast perhaps holding on to drier weather.

"Toward the end of the month, it looks like a trend toward drier weather will begin, especially across the south. Temperatures are likely to be near to or a little above average for the time of year."
