Met Office issues warning of ice as temperatures continue to drop across North East

Parts of the North East will be hit by potential dangerous ice as temperatures continue to plummet.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice in north Northumberland , which could cause "difficult driving conditions" on Wednesday night into Thursday.

The yellow 'be prepared' warning means people should "keep an eye on" forecasts and stay aware of potential risks from the weather.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Icy patches in the east may give difficult driving conditions overnight and Thursday morning."

Drivers and pedestrians are warned to expect "some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces" as well as "some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."

The warning runs from 7pm on Wednesday to 10am on Thursday.

The rest of the region is also set to wake up to cold conditions on Thursday.

According to the Met Office, conditions will be: "Remaining breezy and rather cloudy with showers feeding in from the east, locally heavy, and wintry over high ground. Feeling cold."

The North East is set to see a maximum temperature of 6°C, while the mercury is likely to fall just below zero on Wednesday night.
