Met Office issues urgent weather warning as Merseyside braced for Atlantic blast

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Merseyside as a 140mph jet stream from the Atlantic blasts the region.

Heavy rain is expected across Merseyside today, with travel expected to be disrupted as a result.

The weather warning has been issued between 8am and 10pm tonight, with strong winds also predicted.

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible

An area of low pressure is set to sweep in off the Atlantic Ocean caused by an unusually strong jet stream for the time of year.

Weather forecaster Liam Dutton reports that the jet stream is travelling at around 140mph at about 30,000ft.

The jet stream is said to be also acting as an atmospheric superhighway, bringing the low pressure towards the UK.
