Met Office issues update on when snow will hit UK with freezing temperatures to last all week

Forecasters have predicted that ice-cold temperatures will hover around freezing point over the coming week, as frost paves the way for a plummeting of snow by the end of the month.

Officials from the Met Office see the mercury plunging to chilly lows of -1C over the next seven days, with temperatures remaining around freezing point every night, reaching just over 5C during daylight periods - The Mirror reports.

Freezing conditions will reportedly lead the way for snowfall, which looks set to blast some regions of the UK from Friday, January 28.

WXCharter meteorologists have revealed that snow will be first seen in Scotland, briefly before moving south to the north of England, according to the Sun Online.

East Anglia is expected to be struck with winter showers early on January 29, with parts of the country between Aberdeen and Hampshire seeing snow on the Sunday (January 30).

The temperatures described as an 'arctic chill' follow the trend of recent days, in which the Met Office warned of -5C conditions following thick icy fog on Friday.

During daylight hours this week, nationals will see milder temperatures reaching as high as 10C in the southwest - while generally residing around the 6C or 7C mark.

However, as night fast approaches with shorter hours of daylight, the cold will come in with chills of -1C seen in Wales on the coldest night of the week, which appears to be during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Birmingham and London appear to be set for lows of 1C on that freezing morning, while other places surrounding alike Swindon descend into freezing point.

Temperatures in the east of England are set to struggle to stay over the zero mark, with 1C conditions likely, with the cold front likely to be seen all the way up the east coast, hitting Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

Last Friday, the Met Office urged everyone to "get the hot water bottles at the ready as it's set to be a cold and frosty night" amid reports of brutally cold -5C night ahead.

Despite temperatures plummeting, Brits shouldn't expect any snow yet.
