Met Office issues triple weather warning for Wales as country set to be hit by wind and rain

The forecast for Friday has just got worse as the Met Office issued a further weather warning for the whole of Wales.

The Met Office has said that this weekend will "feel more like autumn than August".

There had already been weather warnings for rain on Friday and wind on Saturday, but on Thursday morning another warning for wind was issued for Friday - meaning there are now three live weather warnings.

The Met Office said about the wind on Friday: "Unseasonably strong southwesterly winds are expected to cause some disruption.

"Gusts of 40-50mph are expected inland and to around 60mph around the coasts - particularly in association with heavy showers."

The wind warning adds to the rain warning that is forecasting a band of heavy rain bringing as much 30mm of rain in just a few hours.

The Met Office says: "The rain will also be accompanied by strong winds, with gusts of 40-50mph possible across parts."

Met Office meteorologist Sarah Kent said: "The first band of rain could bring 30mm of rain in places, and if you draw the short straw, then you could get another 30mm with the showers that follow.

"Some places might get as much as 60mm of rain."

Due to the forecast, people travelling over the weekend are being warned to expect delays and disruption to their journeys.

Boardmasters music festival in Newquay, Cornwall, was cancelled at the 11th hour in anticipation of the bad weather.

While performances at the event, which included slots from stars such as Wu-Tang Clan, Florence + The Machine and Foals, were not due to begin until Friday, doors were set to open to visitors on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on Twitter at 11pm on Tuesday, the festival said "we sincerely regret the disappointment to fans, and apologise for any disruption caused to local businesses".

It added: "The safety of you, the fans and attendees, as well as performers and crew comes first."

Organisers of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta are also making changes to their schedule.
