Met Office issues thunderstorm weather warning for Greater Manchester

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the end of the week covering parts of the UK - including Greater Manchester.

The region is forecast to be hit with heavy showers and thunderstorms on Friday.

The alert, which starts at 10am on August 6, covers North West England, North East England, the East and West Midlands, and parts of North Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland.

Forecasters say that showers and thunderstorms will be 'slow moving', and may cause localised surface water impacts.

There's the potential for 20-30mm of rain in a short space of time and during the course of the day, there is a chance that some places could see as much as 80-100mm build up.

The Met Office also warns of a small chance of flooding, and that sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions.

The warning is expected to be in place for the whole day, until 11.59pm.

It comes after a yellow warning for thunderstorms was put in place yesterday in southern parts of England.

Meanwhile, the forecast for today shows Greater Manchester is set to be sunny, though clouds will quickly form to bring some isolated showers.

As the day progresses, it will stay fine for most, with some light showers and breezy conditions building particularly in Manchester and eastern regions of England.

Further south, expect some heavy, slow moving thundery showers to break out, with a maximum temperature of 23°C.

Elsewhere, expect highs of 21°C across Scotland and Wales, 20°C in Northern Ireland and 22°C in Manchester.
