Met Office issues snow and rain warning for Leeds for Monday

A yellow weather warning for snow has been issued for Leeds for Monday.

The warning starts at 2am and lasts until 3pm.

The Met Office is saying it could lead to some vehicles being stranded with passengers inside; travel delays, cancellations and power cuts.

As well as the snow, there is also a yellow weather warning for rain in place for Huddersfield.

People living in higher areas of the city can expect up to 5cm.

The weather forecaster said: "The bulk of accumulations will be above 200 metres where 2-5 cm is likely in many areas whilst above 300 to 400 metres 5 to 10 cm is expected. At lower levels accumulations will be smaller, patchier and shorter-lived.

"A brief spell of freezing rain is possible as snow begins to turn to rain, leading to icy stretches. Meanwhile, given saturated ground and recent flooding, the combination of snow melt and rain may also bring about some disruption, mainly over parts of northern England."

After the UK was battered by Storm Dennis last weekend and Storm Ciara the weekend before, The Met Office said the next event would be called Storm Ellen.

This will likely only be announced when the Met Office releases an amber wind warning - or a yellow one if there is also a severe rain alert, the Mirror reports.

At the moment the rain, wind, snow and ice warnings issued for the next few days are all yellow, meaning the weather is not expected to have a huge impact.

Despite this, the north of England, northern Ireland and Scotland will be lashed by gusts of up to 75mph tomorrow, with further strong winds expected on Monday.
