Met Office issues nine-hour thunderstorm warning for Leeds as mini heatwave will come to sudden end

The warm weather in Leeds looks set to make way for thunderstorms after the city was hit with a yellow weather warning by the Met Office.

The extreme weather is expected to batter Leeds on Thursday between 11am and 8pm.

The Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms on Thursday have the potential to bring surface water and flooding in a few places, and disruption to travel."

People are being warned to expect flooding in some areas with a small chance that homes and businesses could be damaged due to flood water, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

Drivers could also struggle in the conditions due to spray and sudden flooding, and the Met Office has warned road closures are possible.

The thunderstorms look set to roll in just hours after the end of a mini heatwave.
