Met Office issues new weather warning for fog which may bring travel disruption

Another weather warning for fog has been issued by the Met Office.

It is the second one to have been in force this week, with a yellow weather warning also in force yesterday (January 12).

And the forecasting service has this morning (January 13) issued more warnings for fog.

They cover neighbouring areas including Somerset and Gloucestershire, so the Bristol area is also expected to be affected.

According to the Met Office, it will be foggy in the city until 11am today, when it will turn sunny.

The forecasting service predicts tomorrow morning will also be a foggy start of the day.

The warning, which is in place until 11am, states: "Areas of fog have formed overnight and will be slow to clear in places Thursday morning - perhaps bringing some travel disruption."

This is what the Met Office says people should expect:

  • Slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible
  • Difficult driving conditions with rapid changes to the visibility along routes possible
  • There is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights

This is the Met Office forecast for the South West for the next five days:

Today

A cold start with some areas of fog, especially near rivers. The fog will lift slowly during the morning leaving a dry and sunny day for most, although patchy cloud may affect Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly at times. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight

Patches of fog will redevelop on Thursday evening. These will become more widespread during the early hours, with some dense freezing fog across the east of the area. Frosty too. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Friday

A cold and in places foggy start. The fog will be reluctant to clear in some spots, but where it does lift there'll be some decent spells of sunshine. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday

Cloudy on Saturday with the odd spot of drizzle. Breezier on Sunday with fairly cloudy skies and the chance of a shower. Dry and bright on Monday.
