Met Office issues Edinburgh weather update as capital to be battered with heavy rain

Edinburgh is set to be battered by heavy rain throughout the week.

This comes after the east coast, including Edinburgh felt the brunt of Storm Arwen as many in the city experienced power cuts.

Homes in regions around Scotland in the north east and central belt are still without power, four days after the storm caused havoc.

According to the Met Office, Edinburgh can expect the rain fall from 4pm on Tuesday November 30, with it getting heavier by 5pm and it will continue through the night.

Although after a bitterly cold weekend, temperatures will rise today to double figures hitting 11 degrees and will drop to 8 by 11pm.

However the weather forecasters warn that despite the mild figures, it will only 'feel like' 8 degrees at the most.

For the rest of the week, the Met Office predicts it will be dry with sunny intervals expected on Thursday.

However coming into Saturday, Edinburgh locals will wake up to heavy rain and temperatures only hitting 3 degrees.

The rain will shift southwards in the evening and the weather will change to cloudy by 6pm.

Looking at the weather next week, from December 4 to 13, for the UK, the Met Office warns that Scotland could see the return of snow in the high grounds.

They report: "A mainly fine and dry start on Saturday with showers in the west, these potentially wintry in the northwest. Heavy rain will spread across most areas throughout the day which will likely fall as snow over Scottish high ground.

"It will remain windy with coastal gales in the west. Temperatures will be near normal in the southeast and cold in the north. Continuing unsettled through the rest of this period with spells of wet and windy weather, interspersed with brighter interludes accompanied with showers. The wettest conditions are likely to be in the west and northwest, and drier in the south towards the end of the period. Often windy with a risk of gales at times, especially in the north and northwest. Mild, with the potential for brief colder interludes."
