Met Office issues Edinburgh weather update ahead of Scotland's 'polar plunge'

Scotland is set to watch parts of the country freeze over this week as a blast of Artic air arrives - and may even bring snow with it as early as tomorrow (Thursday, October 21).

However, the latest Met Office forecast shows that Edinburgh is to miss out on freezing temperatures although there will be a notable drop below 10C on Thursday.

Edinburgh is expecting a sunny morning tomorrow but temperatures will feel like 1C and 2C despite coming in at 7C and 8C throughout the day.

The Met Office describes the day as "clear changing to cloudy in the afternoon."

Here's the weather outlook for the rest of the week in Edinburgh:

Tonight:

Some patchy rain during the evening which clears south of the border before midnight, as the winds veer north to northwest, bringing clear spells and a few isolated showers overnight. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Thursday:

Cold day despite bright and sunny spells. A few isolated showers brought on fresh to strong north to northwest winds, wintry across hills and mainly confined to Dumfries and Galloway. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Friday dry, sunny for most with risk of showers limited as northwest winds ease. Turning milder Saturday as winds back southwest, pushing rain bands across area. Sunshine and showers for Sunday.
