Met Office issues 11-hour weather warning with torrential rain expected

And the miserable weather is set to continue, as areas in England are poised to experience wet and windy conditions from 4pm today until 3am tomorrow morning (October 21).

As much as 50mm ofrain could hit the region late on Wednesday afternoon, lasting for around six hours, and it could be accompanied by gales and thunder.

This could cause serious disruption, as it is likely that a few homes and businesses could flood, according to the Met Office.

Journey times could take longer because of spray and flooding on roads, while bus and train services will probably be affected.

It is also likely that there will be some interruption to power supplies and other services.

Five-day forecast for the South West

Today: A band of showery rain will spread eastwards during the morning, turning heavy and thundery in places. It is likely to turn to drier for a time around the middle of the day, before rain returns later in the day. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight: A wet evening as a band of heavy rain moves eastwards, accompanied by strong winds. The rain will clear by midnight, but further rain arrives from the north by dawn. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Thursday: A cloudy and damp start, but skies quickly brightening, leaving many with a dry and sunny day with a few showers in the west. Feeling much colder than of late. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday: Friday will be largely dry but again feeling rather cold. It then turns milder as we head into the weekend, with bands of rain accompanied by stronger winds moving in.
