Met Office issue yellow weather warning for thunderstorms hitting Wales

The Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms in parts of Wales on Sunday evening and through to Monday.

The yellow warning states: "There is a chance that thunderstorms may cause some flooding and disruption on Sunday night."

The warning is in place from 8pm Sunday evening through to 5am on Monday and covers a swathe of south Wales from Swansea to Cardiff, Newport, and Monmouthshire.

It comes on a day when temperatures in Wales are expected to hit 24°C alongside the risk of some heavy showers developing in places.

Sunday :

A fairly cloudy start with scattered showers moving north through the morning, perhaps heavy in places. Drier for the afternoon with a few sunny spells, but also the risk of some heavy showers developing in places. Feeling warm and humid. Maximum Temperature 24 °C.

Sunday night:

A fine end to the day, with some bright spells before dusk. An increasing risk of heavy and thundery showers overnight, merging to give longer spells of rain by dawn. Minimum Temperature 10 °C.

Monday

Showery rain, heavy in places, soon clearing north. Then a day of bright or sunny spells but also scattered heavy and potentially thundery showers. Warm and humid once more. Maximum Temperature 23 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Often unsettled on Tuesday and Wednesday, with heavy showers or longer periods of rain. Some drier brighter interludes developing, more especially by Thursday. Staying on the warm and muggy side.
