Met Office issue yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Merseyside

The Met Office has issued Merseyside a yellow weather warning for snow and ice.

Wintry showers and icy stretches are expected between 8pm tonight (February 25) and 10am tomorrow (February 26).

The Met Office said: "Wintry showers are expected to continue through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning leaving surfaces wet and leading to icy stretches developing on untreated surfaces.

"These showers will fall as a mixture of rain, hail and snow at times, the snow mostly over higher ground.

"Some places are likely to see 1-3 cm of snow, mainly above 200 m, with 4-8 cm possible over the higher ground in northwest England, Wales and west Scotland."

It is expected there could be some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces, probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and some roads and railways may be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

In the North West of England, Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Halton, Lancashire and Warrington have also been issued a yellow weather warning.
