Met Office issue weather warning in West Lothian with risk of flooding today

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in West Lothian with a risk of flooding today and this evening.

The warning started at 11am this morning and will remain in place until 23:59pm tonight as the rain looks set to continue.

The Met say that where heavy showers break out, this could lead to some transport disruption and the potential for localised flooding.

Large parts of Edinburgh were flooded yesterday afternoon as the capital was belted with rain.

So far, West Lothian has managed to avoid floods like those that struck Broxburn last year and Wester Inch in 2016, where emergency crews had to move in to rescue stranded residents.

The forecast for today is for heavy, occasionally thundery, slow moving showers this afternoon and evening.

These will most likely occur over the central belt through the day, becoming confined to the northwest of Scotland by the evening.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings

“Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services. Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

“There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.”
