Met Office issue weather warning for Greater Manchester with strong winds forecast

Strong winds and gales could batter Greater Manchester tomorrow and Wednesday, according to forecasters.

A yellow weather warning for wind has been issued for the region on Tuesday and Wednesday by the Met Office.

The weather warning covers a large part of England and Wales, from Lancashire in the north down to the south coast.

The strong winds could bring some delays to road, rail, air and ferry, disruption to journeys, delays for high-sided vehicles, and some short term power loss for businesses and homes, the Met Office website says.

Today (Monday) should see fairly settled weather with a mixture of sunshine and clouds forecast.

Mercury levels are expected to hover around 17C.

"After a dry and sunny evening, a band of heavy rain will arrive from the west through the early hours accompanied by strengthening winds", a statement on the Met Office website says.

More unsettled weather is forecast (MEN)

The rain is expected to get really heavy throughout Tuesday morning.

It should get lighter in the afternoon, with heavy showers resuming into the evening.

Temperatures should peak at around 20C but it is expected to feel 'cool in the wind and rain'.

Winds are expected to ease throughout Wednesday, but the unsettled weather is likely to continue throughout the week.

A statement on the Met Office website says: "The next few days will remain unsettled with scattered showers and longer spells of rain. Winds will ease through Wednesday. Feeling cool throughout."
