Met Office issue urgent yellow weather warning for dangerous ice in Edinburgh

The Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for Edinburgh and the Lothians for Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 November.

They say that icy patches in the East may give difficult driving conditions overnight and into Thursday morning.

People are warned to watch out for injuries from slips or falls on icy surfaces, and cyclists might find their bikes slip on the roads. Motorists might also spot some icy patches on some untreated roads too.

The Met Office said: "Scattered showers will affect much of the east coast of Scotland this evening and overnight, falling onto freezing surfaces.

"These will be heavy at times and will lead to a risk of icy surfaces where any treatment is washed off.

"Showers will be wintry above 200 metres away from the coast across Aberdeenshire and Moray, with 1-2cm of snow possible."

Gritty Gonzales, Snowball, The Golden Great Gritter and Ice Queen are among those out helping keep roads in Edinburgh and the Lothians safe in freezing conditions.

Traffic Scotland's Trunk Road Gritter tracker shows that there are a dozen ice busting vehicles currently out and about in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.
