Met Office issue Liverpool weather warning for thunderstorms this weekend

The Met Office have issued a new weather warning for thunderstorms across Merseyside this weekend.

Liverpool and the surrounding area has already been rocked by a series of storms , but even more miserable weather is set to hit on Sunday.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms lasting from midday on Sunday until 10pm.

Forecasters are warning that there could be transport disruption and flooding on Sunday, with a chance of power cuts.

Weather experts say conditions will feel settled today before the weekend brings a chance of rain and thunder in the region.

That will continue into Sunday when forecasters also predict strong winds.

The forecast for Liverpool shows a strong chance of thunder and stormy showers throughout Sunday afternoon, lasting into the early evening.

Elsewhere, flash flooding has caused a nightmare for residents of Whaley Bridge in Derbyshire, where nearly 6,500 inhabitants were forced to flee by the threat of a dam collapse.

Saturday's forecast for the wider region says: "Largely dry with warm spells of sunshine, although a few heavy showers may develop, especially over Cumbria through the afternoon. Turning cloudier in the southwest later. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

"The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday is generally unsettled with sunny spells, heavy thundery showers and some occasionally longer spells of rain. Turning breezy at times, but remaining rather warm and at times humid."

Met Office five-day forecast

Today:

Starting dry for many with warm spells of sunshine developing through the morning. Scattered showers will break out across parts of Scotland, northern England, southwest Wales and southwest England, these locally heavy. Most staying dry though with light winds.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:
