Met Office issue Liverpool update amid yellow weather warning for the south

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for parts of the UK over this weekend as people will be looking to get outside and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

A 'yellow' warning has been issued to the south coast of England with thunderstorms expected to bring heavy rain and lightning on early Saturday. The warning will come into place at midnight tonight for 24 hours and brings a chance of flooding and strong winds to all areas on the south coast as far as Greater London.

However north of London, including Liverpool, the weather will be a lot cheerier. There have been no serious weather warnings issued for any part of Merseyside, and although rain is expected on Friday there will be some long periods of sunshine throughout the weekend, with Saturday and Sunday expected to be dry reaching 18 degrees at their hottest.

For Friday, the Met Office weather forecast for the North West said: "It will be a cloudy start with outbreaks of locally heavy rain. The rain will gradually ease through the morning and it will become mostly dry through the afternoon, with sunny spells and an isolated shower possible. Maximum temperature 18C."

Though looking towards the weekend, anyone who has put up the bunting will be pleased to hear that strong or high winds are not expected, with wind speed predicted to stay below 15mph over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Those wishing to watch the Buckingham Palace's Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Saturday at 8pm will be relieved to hear that the yellow warning is not expected to disrupt the three hour event which is to be broadcast on the BBC. There is a chance that the bad weather will move slightly north on Saturday morning, perhaps into central London, but it is expected to retreat by the end of the morning so later festivities shouldn't be affected.
