Met Office issue heavy rain and thunder warning for Liverpool

Merseyside is set for heavy rain and thunder over the next few days, the Met Office has warned.

While the region hasn't been given a yellow weather warning,

During Saturday morning it is likely to be cloudy with occasional showery rain.

Bright or sunny spells will develop, and these may trigger some heavy and thundery downpours during the afternoon.

It will be mostly dry and bright for much of Sunday, but wet and windy weather arrives by evening.

There is likely to be rain at first on Monday, but the weather will become drier and brighter later.

But come Tuesday it will be time to get your barbecue and sun cream out as temperatures in Liverpool soar to 26C.

Wednesday will also be warm, with the sunshine expected to cause temperatures of 25C.

Whilst temperatures drop slightly on Thursday, we can still expect good weather - reaching 21C.

This comes after the Met Office rubbished claims of a 'heat dome' that will cast  Britain into a three-month heatwave .
