Met Office issue Edinburgh snow update as Scotland's temperatures plummet

The Met Office has given an update as to when Edinburgh can expect snow.

Despite seeing a warmer than average September and October, temperatures are set to fall later on this month.

Edinburgh has seen highs of 16 degrees this week which is well above average.

The Met Office told Edinburgh Live: "The typical average day time temperature for October should be around the 10.9C, with overnight lows around 4.9C so the current spell of warm weather is well above the average."

However the pointed out that it is not 'exceptional' as Edinburgh reached a whopping 22.4 degrees celsius in October back in 2018.

As temperatures dropped at night, Ben Nevis saw snowfall on the highest peaks last night.

But now as the plume from Hurricane Sam passes the UK, the warm weather will move and colder temperatures are expected to hit Scotland.

But it might not be time to dig out the winter boots just yet.

A spokesperson for the Met Office has said: "There is no snow in the forecast for anywhere in the UK, with the exception of the very high levels of Ben Nevis."

This comes as a yellow weather warning was issued around the west part of Scotland as heavy rain is set to batter the country until Saturday midday.

Edinburgh, being on the east, luckily misses the downpours with scattered showers through the day, but not heavy enough to issue any flood warnings.
