Met Office issue 'danger to life' warning as thunderstorms forecast for Strathclyde region

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for the Strathclyde region this Sunday and Monday as the Met Office predicts heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The alert is in place from 9pm tonight until 11.59pm on Monday, with the Met Office warning "heavy thundery rainfall, especially on Monday, may lead to flooding, serious travel disruption and danger to life."

It adds: "There is a small chance that fast flowing or deep floodwater could suddenly occur, bringing a danger to life and extensive flooding of homes and businesses.

"There is a slight chance of damage to buildings/structures from lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds."

The alert also warns that there is a chance of power cuts or communities being cut off.

Temperatures will remain high, however, with highs of 21 degrees predicted in Glasgow on Sunday.
