Met Office issue another yellow thunderstorm warning for Greater Manchester

Thunderstorms are predicted to hit Greater Manchester again in the next 24 hours.

The yellow alert covers the whole of the UK from Sunday until Monday evening.

The yellow warning issued by the Met Office says that further heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected at times and may lead to some flooding or travel disruption.

For Manchester, heavy and potentially thundery showers are pushing northwards today, followed by a drier and cloudy afternoon with a few brighter spells.

Lightning over Didsbury, south Manchester

It is also set to feel cooler than previous days, however temperatures could still reach 20C.

As we get into the evening, heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms soon arrive in the south however and continuing northwards through the region overnight.

Why are thunderstorms more common during summer?

The region is expected to be most hit on Monday, with heavy rain setting in around 8am before thunder and lightening arrives in the early evening.

Despite the predicted heavy rainfall, temperature could still be up to 24C.

Widespread 'severe thunderstorm' warnings were in place for the North West for much of last week.

However, Greater Manchester experienced 'heat lightening' instead, which meant no thunder and rain - just sharp bolts of light.

It is thought to be caused from a distant thunderstorm which is too far away to hear the thunder.
