Met Office heatwave forecast on how hot Bristol could get today

Bristol could see temperatures hit scorching highs this week as a mini-heatwave sweeps across the South West.

As the UK summer comes to an end, it could be the last hot spell for months as temperatures are set to soar across the nation.

The Met Office is forecasting a high of 26C for Bristol today (September 6) around the middle of the afternoon.

It could get even hotter on Tuesday (September 7), as the national forecaster predicts temperatures of 28C in the city.

Highs of 25C are forecast on Wednesday (September 8), before conditions cool down heading further into the week, with a risk of heavy showers and thunder.

The Met Office short-term forecast for the South West this week reads: "On Monday, any fog and mist patches from overnight will soon clear, leaving the day fine and dry with sunny spells.

"It will feel very warm to locally hot, with a maximum temperature 26C.

"On Tuesday it will be largely fine with prolonged sunshine.

"It will feel very warm to locally hot, with a maximum temperature 28C.

"Heavy showers are possible on Wednesday and Thursday with a risk of thunder.

"There will be sunny spells on Friday with further showers, turning cooler."

Met Office five-day forecast

Today: Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England starting mostly cloudy with some rain or drizzle, becoming confined to western Scotland later. Else, dry with sunny periods, after fog clears from south-western areas. Very warm inland in central and southern areas.

Tonight: Cloudy with light rain or drizzle in the west of Scotland and Northern Isles. Other areas dry with clear periods, allowing some mist and fog patches to form in places.

Tuesday: Some drizzle over far north and northwest, else dry and sunny for most areas after early mist, fog and patchy low cloud clears. Becoming hot inland over England and Wales.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Sunny for many on Wednesday but heavy showers starting to arrive from the southwest. Turning more widely unsettled on Thursday and Friday. Very warm or hot before temperatures gradually decline.
