Edinburgh weather: Met Office gives snow forecast for Friday as temperatures plummet

The Met Office have issued a snow update as temperatures in Edinburgh are set to drop on Friday morning.

Weather forecasters originally predicted snow for the second week of the month but the Met Office has issued an update as a nip in the air brings with it some unexpected snowfall.

During the wee hours, temperatures will plummet to just 2°C, though Met Office warns it will 'feel like' -3°C between 3am and 9am.

Edinburgh residents will feel the chill and wake up to the sun trying to break through the clouds along with snow showers from 9am.

For Friday February 3, Met Office forecast the day to be "partly cloudy with snow showers by the late morning".

Temperatures will only reach 4°C at the most in the city.

The rest of the day is expected to remain dry with sunny intervals until 3pm where rainfall is forecasted.

Saturday brings with it heavier rain.

The Met Office add: "Colder with wintry showers on Friday, some lying snow possible, strong northwesterly winds. Milder on Saturday but cloudy and strong winds, wet overnight then returning to cold blustery conditions Sunday".

This comes after heavy rain and wind is forecasted for the most of the week and looking towards next week, the Met Office expect little change with more snow forecasted for the north of the UK.

Low pressure is expected to bring "an unsettled picture for much of the UK with heavy rain, stronger winds and a risk of wintry precipitation in the north while the south is expected to remain largely dry. It will be milder for many especially in the south of the country, whilst brief colder incursions from the north are possible throughout the period."
