Met Office forecasts warm Bank Holiday weekend with some UK temperatures hotter than Ibiza

With the wettest May since records began wrapping up next week, the Met Office is now predicting a warmer Bank Holiday weekend which will continue into half term.

An earlier Met Office forecast revealed temperatures will finally hit 20°C in some parts of Wales, but now the temperature looks to increase even further in some places.

South-East Wales looks likely to enjoy the best of the weather, with Abergavenny reaching 22°C and Newport predicted to climb up to 21°C by Tuesday, June 1.

This trails only just behind other places in the UK, with the Met Office predicting highs of 23°C in London this Bank Holiday weekend, beating Ibiza.

Elsewhere in Wales, it looks pleasant and dry, allowing everyone to finally enjoy the relaxed Covid regulations.

Here's what is expected where you live:

Abergavenny

Abergavenny has highs of 22°C next week (Met Office)

Abergavenny just beats Newport to claim the highest temperatures in Wales with highs of 22°C on Tuesday, June 1. While the temperature drops back down to 21°C on Wednesday, June 1, it looks a good time to head east this half term.

Newport

Newport is set to have the best of the weather next week (Met Office)

Newport has lucked out some of the warmest weather predicted next week. It is climbing to 21°C on Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2 and long-term forecasts predict the warm weather is here to stay for now.

Cardiff

Cardiff gets the warmest weather soon, with 20°C predicted from Sunday onwards (Met Office)

Cardiff can't quite meet Newport's 21°C at the moment, but it still looks to be a lovely Bank Holiday and half term as highs of 20°C are predicted on Sunday, May 30.

Swansea

Plenty of nice weather for Swansea next week (Met Office)

An extra 1,000 Swansea FC fans will be heading up to Wembley this weekend, but those staying put can rest assured it will still be a good weekend to enjoy the match with the TV angled out into the garden. And with temperatures hitting 20°C on Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2 it will be the perfect time to head to Gower.

Tenby

(Met Office)

It looks like Wally the Walrus has left Tenby just as the warmer weather comes in. With the temperatures reaching the late teems, high UV warnings are in place so be sure to include your sun cream in your holiday suitcase this half term.

St David's

Temperature jumps back up as we head West to St David's (Met Office)

Further on from Tenby and the temperature increases again. St David's looks to be a lovely half term visit with highs of 19°C.

Pen-Y-Fan

It's best waiting later into half-term to climb Pen-Y-Fan (Met Office)

A half term favourite, Pen-Y-Fan is cooler than the rest of Wales, reaching 14°C from Monday, May 31 to Wednesday, June 2.

Gwynedd

Gwynedd joins South Wales in the 20°C group (Met Office)

Thinking of taking on something a bit more challenging than Pen-Y-Fan? Those heading for Snowdon need to be prepared for warm weather with temperatures hitting 20°C on Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2.

From Thursday onwards:

The nice weather is set to continue towards the rest of the week and the Met Office predicts temperatures to be within or above average with a few showers breaking up the sun.
