Met Office forecasts sunny spells this weekend as UK enjoys warm weather

The UK is set to enjoy a warmer weekend as temperatures continue to rise.

Most of the UK will enjoy above average temperatures of between 11C and 13C into the next two days thanks to a warm, southerly airflow, the Mirror reports.

Meteorologist Aiden McGivern from the Met Office said: "Meteorological spring may not begin until Monday but we'll have a sneak preview this weekend.

"Following an eventful winter so far, you could say winter goes out on a whimper this weekend with very quiet conditions with high pressure, dry for most, not necessarily sunny everywhere but it will be mild."

The weather forecast for the North East is to stay "dry and rather mild with sunny spells and light winds."

Last month, the UK faced wintery conditions with heavy snow causing disruption up and down the country.

The Met Office issued several yellow and amber warnings, with flood alerts also being issued due to the heavy rain.

But in the last week, the first signs of spring have started to appear with temperatures starting to rise.

Five day weather forecast for the North East

Today

A chilly start, with a frost in some rural places. Then staying dry with sunny spells, light winds and only patchy cloud, the cloud mainly but not exclusively across western hills. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight

Areas of cloud will persist across western hills, before generally cloudier conditions arrive late tonight. A slight frost is possible, especially for eastern areas. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Saturday

Mostly cloudy, with limited bright or sunny intervals, and light winds. Many places will remain dry, although some patchy light rain and drizzle will arrive, mostly across the Pennines. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday

It will often be cloudy, especially along the coast where patchy mist and fog could arrive, but still some sunny spells will develop, particularly inland. Temperatures remaining near average.
