Met Office forecasts snow in Bristol and some parts of Somerset this week

Temperatures have certainly dropped in the past few days.

And the Met Office is now warning more cold weather is on its way to Bristol and parts of Somerset - with snow predicted to hit the city this week.

Overcast weather is forecase for Bristol today, which is expected to clear by the early evening. The maximum temperatures will be 4° this afternoon, the Met Office says, while the minimum will be -1°.

Temperatures will drop further tomorrow (Thursday, January 7), when the maximum temperature will be 2° according to the forecasting service. Temperatures could also plunge by as much -2° tomorrow, which will be an overcast before sunny intervals arrive by lunchtime.

The Met Office is predicting snow will hit Bristol on Friday (January 8), with the forecast saying: "Overcast changing to light snow by late morning."

The forecast is predicting light snow in Bristol at 9am, with maximum temperatures for the day being 3° and the minimum -1°.

The Met Office is also forecasting snow for the North Somerset area at around the same time, with a 50% chance of light snow on Friday morning in Nailsea.

Forecasting service WXCharts is predicting snow for the city, and the wider area, on Friday morning and into lunchtime.

A mostly dry and cloudy day, with any sunny spells confined to the west. A few wintry showers are possible, falling as sleet or snow over the moors. Feeling cold, despite lighter winds than yesterday. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight

Skies will clear during the evening, before cloud moves slowly in from the east overnight. Largely dry and very cold, with a risk of freezing fog patches and icy conditions. Minimum temperature -4 °C.

Thursday

A foggy and frosty start for many, but most areas becoming sunny in the afternoon. Dry throughout, with light winds and feeling cold. Widespread frost overnight. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow on Friday. Drier on Saturday, with sunny spells. Staying cold both days, with overnight frosts. Cloudy and milder on Sunday.
