Met Office forecasts four days of rain and strong winds in parts of Wales

The weekend is likely to be a washout for much of Wales as unsettled weather hovers over the country.

A low pressure system is set to bring four days of rain and wind to the region, leaving little opportunity to get outside.

Following a mostly dry but cloudy day on Friday, Saturday will usher in the start of the wet weather.

Rain is forecast to begin in the western half of the country on Saturday morning before spreading into more easterly areas as the sun sets.

Despite temperatures hovering at a mild 10C, breezy and damp conditions will make the air feel cooler.

The showers will continue into Sunday, with the worst of the rain occurring over the hills.

But the wet and windy conditions are set to reach their worst as the first full week of the new year gets underway.

The Met Office is predicting strong winds and heavy rain for a widespread area of Wales on Monday and Tuesday.

Gusts could exceed 45 miles per hour in some coastal areas.

Motorists may also face delays to the morning commute as fog covers the region.
