Met Office forecasters issue yellow weather warning for snow for the East Midlands

Met Office forecasters have issued a yellow weather warning for snow for the East Midlands.

They say snow and strong winds are expected on Boxing Day (Sunday, December 26).

The 12-hour warning is in place from 12.15am until 12pm.

Forecasters say there is "greater potential" for snow accumulating over the southern Pennines overnight, meaning the warning has been extended further south into Derbyshire, including Buxton.

The warning covers parts of Yorkshire, including Bradford and Huddersfield, and extends towards Lancashire.

But Nottinghamshire is expected to remain unaffected.

But for the wider region, forecasters warn of possible disruption, mainly when travelling over higher ground.

What to expect:

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected by snow or ice, leading to longer journey times by car, as well as by bus and possibly train services
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
