Met Office forecast: Weather chart shows when deluge of heavy rain will strike in June

Weather charts show when the heavens could open bringing a temporary end to the hot weather in the West Country.

According to weather mapping service WX charts, mid June will see a band of heavy rain arrive bringing a deluge which could result in Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12 being the wettest days of the month.

The chart shows Bristol and Somerset could see up to 12 millimetres of rain on both days.

The green and dark blue patches show where rain will be heaviest, with more than one millimetre of rain set to fall each hour in Bristol and most of Somerset.

However, the deluge is expected to last just a few days, with the following week looking dry as it stands.

Parts of devon, Cornwall, West Wales and West Somerset were gripped by a Met Office thunderstorm warning this morning.

The Met Office’s long range forecast states there will be “outbreaks of rain tending to gradually work their way in from the west” from June 6 to June 15.

“Temperatures will trend towards the milder side of average with the chance of some very warm or hot spells at times,” it reads.

“Into the following week, a trend towards more settled and dry conditions overall, however this is accompanied by a risk of some showers and longer spells of light rain developing at times.”

It follows an unpredictable pattern of weather in May, which saw heavy rain and strong winds batter the country on the first bank holiday of the month, with temperatures reaching highs of 24 degrees on the second long weekend.

Last weekend hundreds flocked to local holiday hotspots, including Bristol Harbourside and Weston-super-Mare, to soak up the sun, while there were huge delays on the M5 with sunseekers desperate to get to their favourite destinations across the region.

Today (Wednesday, June 2) the South West is in for another scorcher, with highs of 26 degrees predicted despite thunderstorm warnings for the region.

Grahame Madge, a Met Office spokesman, said: “The fine weather is forecast to extend into the weekend, but there will be a period of thunderstorms for some in Wales and the South West for Wednesday.

“Temperatures are expected to peak on Wednesday with a high of 26.0 C across the region, with the possibility that some weather stations may record a degree or so higher.”
