Met Office forecast for Nottingham after 'Beast from the East' reports

The Met Office has outlined its forecast for Nottingham amid reports that a 'snow bomb' similar to the Beast from the East is set to hit parts of the UK. For the next few days, the Met Office has predicted this week will be mostly overcast and cloudy in Nottingham, without any of the adverse weather conditions expected in other parts of the country.

Temperatures will remain fairly mild, reaching highs of 11C on Thursday and Friday and possible lows of 4C on Sunday. Freezing conditions continued into the weekend with a rare amber weather warning for cold weather ending on Saturday (January 28), which had been extended for a fourth time by the UK Health Security Agency.

The UKHSA also urged Brits to look out for vulnerable and elderly neighbours as worries grow over those too afraid or unable to put on their heating due to soaring energy bills, as reported by the Mirror. It comes after maps from WXCharts suggested there could be a likelihood of snow falling across different parts of the UK in the coming days.

The charts show a 50 to 70 percent chance of the white stuff hitting northern parts of England on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as a 80 to 95 percent chance of falling in Scotland. The likelihood of snow in more southern parts is considerably lower, however, with areas seeing around a 20 percent chance, with the immediate outlook for Nottingham remaining reasonably mild.

It comes after Jim Dale, from the British Weather Services, told the Express that February's outlook will depend on how the specific systems play out. He said: "Only stratospheric warming over the North Pole will keep us and other northern hemisphere countries in the wintry frame through February. The ‘fat lady’ is not yet singing."

Previously, he said that a chance in weather patterns was "looking likely at the start of December". He said at the time: "If this happens, we are in a classic position to get a cold flow in from the east, and with that, snow, ice and very cold winds. This is an indicator of a Beast from the East, and although it has not woken up fully yet, it is safe to say the beast is opening its eyes.”
