Met Office 'danger to life' Liverpool weather warning issued

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for Liverpool, as 24 hours of rain are set to hit the city.

Liverpool and the surrounding area is set to have 24 hours of continual rain starting from midday today.

The weather warning for rain officially comes into force at 3pm today, until 3pm on Saturday.

The weather organisation are warning of flooding and widespread disruption to travel.

The Met Office said: "Heavy rain is expected during Friday and Saturday which may lead to flooding.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads."

The forecast for the next few days says: "Friday will see a dry and bright start for most. However, an approaching area of rain from the southwest will spread in, bringing strengthening winds and persistent heavy rain. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

"On Friday night it will remain a wet picture for many, with the rain continuing overnight. Over some higher ground it may turn wintry at times. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

"The heavy and persistent rain will continue through to Saturday. However this will clear during the day leaving sunshine and a few showers. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

"Sunday will be brighter with the odd shower, however we'll also see colder air moving in. Monday and Tuesday will be dry with sunshine by day and frost overnight."
