Met Gala 2023: Who's attending, what's the theme and how to watch live

New York City is gearing up for one of its most glamourous events in fashion tonight (Monday May 1), as the annual Met Gala takes place.

Brits Dua Lipa and Michaela Coel will be co-chairing the Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, alongside actress Penélope Cruz and tennis star Roger Federer. A collection of the planet's top designers - and the best-dressed stars - will join together for the event, which this year honours late designer Karl Lagerfield.

The German artist, who headed up Chanel and Fendi throughout his 54-year career, died in 2019. This year's Costume Institute exhibition, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” celebrates his work and life.

Met Gala attendees will adhere to the 2023 dress code, which is simply 'in honour of Karl.'

The Met Gala is considered a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and has traditionally been timed to mark the opening of its annual fashion exhibition. It raises eight-figure sums every year, with a single ticket reportedly costing $50,000.

With around 600 attendees expected, who might we see tonight on the red carpet?

Actress La La Anthony, journalist Derek Blasberg, Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman and YouTuber Emma Chamberlain will be co-hosting all the livestream coverage. Meanwhile Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who runs the Gala, will also be there.

Other stars include singer Rita Ora, who confirmed her attendance via Instagram, and American actress Elle Fanning. The guest list is usually top secret, but stars like Beyonce and Rihanna regularly attend the Met Gala.

How to watch the Met Gala live

The official Met Gala livestream is available to watch via Vogue.com from 11.30pm in the UK. Vogue's social media platforms, including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, will also be covering the event.

Viewers can also watch via the E! Chanel via Sky, Virgin Media, BT or TalkTalk.

For all the pre-Gala action, tune in to TeenVogue.com for its red carpet livestream at 10.30pm BST.
