Met Gala 2022 pictures: How the Kardashians dressed and others that stole the show

The first Monday in May has always marked the biggest fashion event on the calendar, the Met Gala. The annual ceremony sees celebrities and designers hit the red carpet in order to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.

This year the theme was Gilded Glamour and White Tie. It was the second part of a two-part series, the first of which was held in September 2021, following a delay due to the pandemic, and was called In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.

The opulent theme saw the stars pull out all the stops, with transformative outfits, sheer ensembles, and jaw-dropping numbers. Among those hitting the red carpet was Kim Kardashian, who was joined by her partner Pete Davidson.

Kim was one of the last celebrities to walk the red carpet and turned heads in Marilyn Monroe's iconic gold dress. The skin-tight number was the very same one the star wore to sing happy birthday to then-president John F Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

Sharing her look on Instagram, Kim wrote: "Met Gala — In America: An Anthology of Fashion. I am so honored to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing 'Happy Birthday' to President John F. Kennedy. It is a stunning skintight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis."

She added: "I am forever grateful for this moment."

Kim was joined by all of her sisters, including mum-of-two Kylie Jenner who wore a bizarre ensemble that included a wedding dress, a backward baseball cap, and a fishnet veil. The 24-year-old later explained the outfit was a nod to the late designer Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November at the age of 41 after a two-year battle with cancer.

Sharing snaps on social media, Kylie said: "Virgil and i were supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020. to celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy truly means the world to me. i’m humbled to wear this dress and honor my talented beautiful friend. we felt you tonight Virgil and love you forever & thank u to the entire @off____white team !!"

Kourtney Kardashian and her fiance Travis Barker also attended the event. The pair coordinated their outfits which consisted of white shirts and pleated black skirts. "We're in Thom Browne, and I'm basically like a deconstructed version of [Travis's] outfit," Kourtney explained on the red carpet.

Meanwhile, Khloe Kardashian rocked a gold Moschino gown and Kendall Jenner opted for a custom Prada outfit with a sheer black crop top and a full skirt complete with ruched detailing.

Sheer seemed to be a popular theme on the red carpet with Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor making her Met Gala debut in a delicate sheer floor-length gown. While Vanessa Hudgens also wore a jaw-dropping black sheer dress from Moschino.

Another big highlight from the red carpet came in the form of Blake Lively's stunning copper Versace gown, which appeared to turn turquoise after a swift outfit change. Blake later explained the transformation was a nod to patina, the green film that forms when copper is oxidised.

Bling was also big theme with Janelle Monae stealing the show in a full silver headpiece, which was attached to a glittering black dress by Ralph Lauren.

Alicia Keys also opted for a shimmering Ralph Lauren gown which was made complete with a stunning cape featuring the New York City skyline in crystals. The singer said her ensemble was meant to "represent an empire state of mind and a city of gods".

Cardi B also dressed to impress in a gown from Versace which was made up entirely of gold chains.

The event also saw newly-weds Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz make their first appearance as a married couple. Brooklyn looked dapper in an all-white suit, with matching trainers, while Nicola also stunned in a fuschia strapless gown that featured a long train.
