Met Gala 2022 pictures: From Kim Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe gown to Blake Lively's changing dress

The Met Gala 2022 saw glitz and glamour hit the red carpet once again. The annual event, which is usually held on the first Monday in May, was back to normality after two years of delayed or cancelled events due to the pandemic.

And celebrities made sure they pulled out all the stops for this year's theme, which was called Gilded Glamour and White Tie. It was the second part of a two-part series, the first of which was held in September 2021 and was called In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.

Highlights at the fashion event this year included Blake Lively, whose stunning copper Versace gown appeared to turn turquoise after a swift outfit change on the red carpet. Blake, who surprised husband Ryan Reynolds with the outfit change, later explained the transformation was a nod to patina, the green film that forms when copper is oxidised.

Another stand-out moment came from Kim Kardashian who wore Marilyn Monroe's iconic gold dress, the very same one she had on to sing happy birthday to then-president John F Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

Sharing her look on Instagram, Kim – who attended the Met Gala with partner Pete Davidson – wrote: "Met Gala — In America: An Anthology of Fashion.

"I am so honored to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing 'Happy Birthday' to President John F. Kennedy. It is a stunning skintight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis." She added: "I am forever grateful for this moment."

Kim wasn't the only Kardashian-Jenner to hit the red carpet, with Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Khloe Kardashian, and Kourtney Kardashian, alongside her fiance Travis Barker, all making stunning appearances.

Kylie opted for a white wedding dress which she bizarrely paired with a backwards baseball cap and a fishnet veil. The outfit was a nod to the late designer Virgil Abloh, who passed away in November at the age of 41 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The mum-of-two wrote on Instagram: "Virgil and i were supposed to go to the Met together before it got postponed in 2020. to celebrate V tonight and his incredible legacy truly means the world to me. i’m humbled to wear this dress and honor my talented beautiful friend. we felt you tonight Virgil and love you forever & thank u to the entire @off____white team !!"

Meanwhile, Kourtney wore a long-sleeve white cropped shirt and a floor-length cream and black skirt, while Khloe rocked a gold Moschino gown and Kendall wore a custom Prada outfit with a sheer black crop top and a full skirt complete with ruched detailing.

And Kendall wasn't the only one, with sheer proving a big hit on the red carpet this year.

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor made her Met Gala debut in a delicate sheer floor-length gown. While Vanessa Hudgens also wore a jaw-dropping black sheer dress from Moschino.

Bling was also big theme with Janelle Monae stealing the show in a full bejewelled headpiece, which was attached to a glittering black dress by Ralph Lauren.

Alicia Keys also opted for a shimmering Ralph Lauren gown which was made complete with a stunning cape featuring the New York City skyline in crystals. The singer said her ensemble was meant to "represent an empire state of mind and a city of gods".

Cardi B also dressed to impress in a gown from Versace which was made up entirely of gold chains.

The event also saw newly-weds Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz make their first appearance as a married couple. Brooklyn looked dapper in an all-white suit, with matching trainers, while Nicola also stunned in a fuschia strapless gown that featured a long train.
