Met Gala 2016: Beyoncé and Rita Ora pose for selfie together following 'Becky' Lemonade rumours

While the Met Gala is a time to celebrate art and fashion, it’s also a time for high-profile people to mingle and thus can determine whether tabloid and internet rumours are fuelled or put to an end.

Rita Ora and Beyoncé chose the latter at the Manus x Machina themed event held on Monday night in New York City when they posed for a selfie together on Ora’s snapchat, finally putting those “Becky” rumours to bed.

Last week, following the release of Beyoncé’s critically-claimed visual album Lemonade, the rumour mill went into overdrive as fans speculated who the star might be singing about on her song “Sorry” when she sings: “He only want me when I’m not there, He better call Becky with the good hair”. Given Beyoncé’s high-profile relationship with Jay Z, rumours about their marriage soon circulated as her fan base speculated the identity of “Becky”.

After flooding New York designer Rachel Roy’s Instagram with bee and lemon emojis, some of the “Beyhive” fanbase turned their attention to Ora. The 25-year-old responded to the comments a day later stating that the rumours are false. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for Beyoncé. Let’s continue enjoying Lemonade,” she wrote.

And via the medium of Snapchat, the pair hammered these truths home posing for a selfie together with Ora captioning the snap “Family”.
