Met Eireann weather forecast shows massive temperature drop and miserable weekend

Met Eireann forecasters have predicted that temperatures will continue to drop with a miserable weekend in store.

Electric blankets, hot water bottles and space heaters may be pulled out of the presses tonight when the temperature plummets.

The freezing temperatures will soon be replaced with heavy rain that is sure to ruin your plans this weekend.

Today will be dry with sunny spells with highest temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees expected.

However, weather conditions will change drastically tonight with temperatures plummeting to just above freezing.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week.

Tomorrow: "Friday will be dry with bright or sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 10 or 11 degrees with light to moderate westerly breezes."

Tomorrow night: "Friday night will be milder than previous nights. It will be mostly cloudy and mainly dry. There will be patchy light rain and drizzle at times in the west, becoming more persistent in the northwest by morning. Lowest of 4 to 8 degrees with southwest winds freshening."

Saturday: "On Saturday, rain in the northwest will move southeastwards across the country, becoming lighter as it does so. The southeast will stay dry for much of the day. Drier clearer conditions and a few showers will follow from the northwest through the late afternoon and evening.

"Highest temperatures of 12 tor 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds. Saturday night will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some patchy mist or drizzle Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees, with light to moderate westerly breezes."

Sunday: "Sunday will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny intervals, the best of these in the south. There will be a few showers in the north. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest breezes."

Monday: "Monday will be mild and mostly cloudy with some patchy light rain or drizzle. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees. On Monday night, rain ill develop in the west and will spread eastwards across the country, clearing early on Tuesday."

Further outlook: "Tuesday and Wednesday will be a brighter days with sunshine and some showers, mainly in the west."
