Met Eireann weather forecast drop in temperature as rain sweeps across the country

Temperatures are set to reach almost 20C today before dropping to lows of 4 to 9 degrees, according to the latest Met Eireann forecast.

This morning will start "wet and blustery with widespread outbreaks of rain, heavy in places."

"The rain will gradually clear through the morning and will be followed by sunny spells and scattered showers for the afternoon and evening. Later in the evening, the showers will become isolated.

"Temperatures will remain above average, reaching 16 to 19 degrees, and there will be moderate to fresh south to southwest winds, strong at times near coasts."

Tonight will see a "spell of showery rain will move into south Munster and south Leinster overnight and there will be a few showers in northern coastal counties too. It will be a cooler and fresher night with lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees."

On Wednesday scattered showers will develop in Ulster during the afternoon and a spell of rain will move into the northwest later in the afternoon, extending across Ulster and Connacht during the evening.

"It will be a cooler day than recently, with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees."

Meanwhile Thursday will be a "cool day with plenty of dry and bright weather. There will be scattered showers, mainly in western and northern coastal areas.

"Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in a moderate to fresh northwesterly breeze."
