Met Eireann updated weather forecast as two counties listed for a bad weekend

Despite a small easing in the freezing conditions, Met Eireann are predicting no signs of the weather significantly improving.

In fact, the forecast for this weekend is quite grim with showers and chilly nights expected.

If you're living in Cork and Kerry, the rainfall is set to be particularly miserable on Saturday with Met Eireann stating that the Munster counties are set to bear the brunt of the poor conditions.

As for tonight, the rain is set to clear over the western half of the country, with a few isolated showers developing. However, for those living in the east, the rain and drizzle will remain for a longer period, becoming light and patchier overnight.

The patchy rain and drizzle will clear from on Thursday morning, leaving most areas dry with some bright spells expected. However, conditions are set to deteriorate on Thursday night with another spell of rain arriving in western counties.

These rainy conditions are expected to spread eastwards during the afternoon and remain for the evening, developing into longer spells of rain at times, especially in the west and north of the country.

Moving into the weekend and Friday morning will be wet.

However, good dry and bright periods will develop during the day. Thankfully, rain showers will become isolated overnight with good clear periods developing.

Saturday is set to be a miserable day, especially if you're living in Munster.

After a spell of dry weather across the country, later in the day, cloud will thicken in Munster with rain reaching Kerry and west Cork.

Saturday night will see a cold start with an early frost possible in the north and east. The mercury is set to drop with lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees expected.

However, rain in the southwest will extend nationwide during the night and temperatures will rise.

As for Sunday morning, the frequent rainfall is set to move north to leave a day of bright spells and widespread showers.
